What's open, what's closed on July 4 around Tucson

Independence Day is commemorated on the fourth day of July, and it falls on a Thursday this year.

Tucson city offices, apart from emergency services, will be closed on July 4.

City trash collection services will remain in their regular schedule, and the Los Reales landfill will be open.

Federal government offices will be closed, along with most banks and credit unions. U.S. stock exchanges will also be closed.

U.S. Postal Service offices will be closed and there will be no mail
delivery. UPS and FedEx stores will remain closed as well, except for
UPS Express Critical and FedEx Custom Critical services.

The Motor Vehicle Division will be closed.

Pima Community College and the University of Arizona will be closed.

Most Walmart and Target locations will be open.

Reid Park Zoo and the Arizona-Sonoran Desert Museum will both be open regular hours.

As for transportation, Sun Tran, Sun Van and Sun on Demand will be running on a Sunday schedule.

Sun Shuttle ADA Dial-a-Ride service will operate from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Sun Express and Sun Shuttle will not be in operation.

Sun Tran’s Route 21 will be on detour on Thursday, July 4, and the following stops will not be serviced:

  • Congress Street/ Granada Avenue to Westmoreland Avenue
  • Westmoreland Avenue/ Congress Street to Fresno Street
  • Fresno Street/ Cuesta Avenue to Silverbell Road
  • Silverbell Road/ Sonoran Palms Apts. to St. Mary’s (Southeast & Southwest stops only)

Riders can utilize stops at:

  • Silverbell Road/ San Jose Avenue to St. Mary’s (northeast stop)
  • Broadway Boulevard/ Church Avenue
  • Alameda Street/ Court Avenue
  • Ronstadt Transit Center (RTC)

The Sun Link streetcar will run on a Sunday schedule beginning at 8 a.m. with extended service 30 minutes after the conclusion of the “A” Mountain fireworks show. It offers free access to viewing spots at the Tucson Convention Center and Mercado District.

To TCC hop off at Granada Avenue/ Cushing Street.
To Mercado District hop off at Cushing Street/Avenida del Convento or Avenida del Convento/Congress Street.
