Six Tucson muralists teamed up to paint pieces along the Speedway corridor near the University of Arizona to help beautify a part of one of the busiest roads in Tucson.

The works — by Allison Miller, Jodie Lewers Chertudi, Jenna Tomasello, Sasha Aliza, Monique Laraway and Alex Fass — bring pops of color to commutes near the school.

All six works are inspired by poetry ranging from a haiku to hip-hop lyrics. The poems are by writers Madison June, Marcus OX Williams, TC Tolbert, Leslie Marmon Silko, Brenda Hillman and Logan Phillips.

The art project was funded with a grant from the Southwestern Foundation for Education and Historical Preservation. The UA’s Poetry Center worked to support the artists and fund the murals.
